  • What are my chances of admission to UCLA?

    April 9th, 2010 by RLove.us Admin

im a sophomore at a medical magnet HS.
first semester GPA: 4.16 weighted. (4.0 if unweighted)
taking 3 AP’s in my junior year.
    extracurriculars:
-attended Dance Studio for 7 years.
-on Dance team in school (have performed at UCLA twice)
-Piano lessons for 7 years (one certificate of appreciation)
    -Library Volunteer (200 hours)
-S.T.A.R (Science Technology and Research) for junior year (will participate in Science Fair)
-CSF member (attend the volunteer events)
-will volunteer at the hospital (aiming for at least 150 hours) next summer (really looking forward to the experience)
-taking two college classes this summer at a CC (one is a A-G class that will add to my gpa)

considering i (hopefully) get an average score on my SATs
    and ACT,

how do my chances look, and/or what do you suggest?

ucla is one of the hardest schools to get into, you are looking good but there are alot of other kids who are just like you, you cant just do average on the SAT you have to do very well. But overall you are on the right track. my sister goes there so i know.

well i had less extracurriculars than you and I got in for Fall 2009 (although i declined their offer of admission today lol). I would say you have a pretty good chance. Your GPA is a little higher than mine (mine’s like 4. 1) and I have less volunteer hours. And I’m just at a regular public high school. Continue to take AP’s throughout high school and keep up your good grades and I think you’ll be fine.

It is still early, of course, but your GPA and activities look good for now. You will need to do far better than average on your SATs in order to get into UCLA, which gets more applications than any other college in the country most years, and thus is extremely competitive to get into.

seems like you have a pretty good chance of getting in.
Keep in mind that they accepted 8% this year though.
